AMS for professional services

Time captured against the engagement as it happens, not reconstructed on Friday

The Friday timesheet is a work of fiction in most consultancies: consultants reconstruct a week from calendar invites and memory, round to the half day, and the firm bills on the result. AMS captures time when it is worked — clock in, pick the engagement, switch when the work switches — with inactivity detection pausing the clock on breaks, so the timesheet is a record rather than a recollection.

Included in every plan. No per-seat charge, no per-tool upsell.

In practice

What AMS does for professional services

01

Clock in against the engagement, switch when the work switches

A consultant clocks in from the browser and logs time against the engagement they are on; moving to another client is a switch, not a new form. The day’s segments show where each hour went.

02

Inactivity pauses the clock, and the rule is the firm’s

Idle detection pauses the timer after a threshold your organisation sets, decided on the server from the browser’s evidence. Whether a consultant may undo a pause is a policy flag, not a personal setting.

03

Personal and team timesheets by engagement

Each consultant sees their own week by engagement; a manager sees the team’s, with corrections requested and approved rather than typed over. Interior gaps stay as breaks; a widened window credits the edges.

04

Leave and availability on one calendar

Leave requests go to approvers with the entitlement per leave type already worked out, and the leave calendar shows who is out, so staffing next week’s engagement is read from availability, not asked around.

Where AMS hands off for a consultancy team

Hours logged here are what Trackline costs against each engagement and what Ledgr pays from at month end — one record, three uses. A correction approved in AMS changes the engagement’s margin and the payroll timesheet without a re-key.

Questions consultancy teams ask about AMS

Can consultants log time after the fact for a client site visit?

Yes. A consultant who could not clock in on site requests an attendance correction with the times and the engagement; an approver accepts it and the record shows the correction alongside the request. Approvers can also add records directly, and every path is logged.

Do we have to use idle detection or screenshots?

No. Inactivity auto-pause is off by default and optional activity screenshots are a separate switch. Many firms use AMS purely as a clock-in and timesheet tool with neither; both are policies your organisation chooses and should tell its people about.

How does time reach the client invoice?

Hours per engagement and period are read by Trackline and exportable from both tools, which is what an invoice is built from. Orbiz does not generate invoices; your accounting tool does, from numbers that already agree with payroll.
