AMS · AI assistant (MCP)

A time tracking MCP server for timesheets, attendance and leave, that never touches the clock

People ask the same few questions of an attendance system all week: how long have I worked today, what does my timesheet say, how much leave is left, who is off. Orbiz MCP lets an AI assistant answer those from AMS and handle leave requests in plain words. One thing is deliberately missing: an assistant cannot clock anyone in or out. Attendance records that a person was at work, and that stays an action a person takes. This page covers what the assistant reads, what it changes and where the line is.

Included in every plan. No per-seat charge, no per-tool upsell.

Your own time, by asking

Four of the actions are about the person asking. An assistant can read your attendance for today, your timesheet, your leave balance and the leave requests you have made. So “how long have I worked today?”, “show last week’s timesheet” and “how much annual leave do I have left?” each get a direct answer.

These are reads. Nothing about your recorded hours changes because you asked, and an assistant has no way to edit a timesheet entry: no such action exists.

Leave requests, start to finish

Leave is where an assistant saves real clicks. You can ask it to request leave for given dates with a reason, and to cancel a request you made. For approvers there are two more actions: see the team’s leave requests, and approve or reject one.

An approver’s week might include “show me the leave requests waiting on me” on Monday morning and “approve Bilal’s request for the 14th” a minute later. The decision is recorded in AMS as the approver’s, because the assistant is acting as them. A member who is not an approver is not offered those actions.

A team attendance summary

One action returns an attendance summary for a team. It is for the people who already see their team’s attendance in AMS, and it answers the question a lead asks before a stand-up or a client call: who is in, and how the week looks.

It is a summary, not surveillance by another route. Screenshots have no assistant action at all, so an assistant cannot list or open them, for you or for a team.

Why an assistant cannot start or stop the clock

There is no action for clocking in, clocking out, breaks or the attendance timer. That is a decision, not a gap waiting to be filled. A clock-in says a person started work, and AMS backs it with its own checks, including pausing for inactivity. Letting software clock in on someone’s behalf would undo the point of the record.

Hours against client work are a different matter. Logging time to a project and milestone is a Trackline action, and an assistant can do that: “log three hours on the Acme redesign for yesterday” works. So the split is simple. Attendance stays manual; project hours can be dictated.

Connecting an assistant to AMS

Your organisation’s connection address lives in Settings → Connected AI apps inside Orbiz, next to the steps for each assistant. Copy it into Claude or ChatGPT as a custom connector, then approve on the Orbiz page the assistant opens. Tick reading for AMS to ask questions, and changes as well if you want it to request or decide leave. You can disconnect it from the same Settings screen at any time.

Before you decide

What it does not do

The limits, stated plainly, so nobody finds them after the contract is signed.

  • Clocking in or out, and the attendance timer
  • Viewing or taking screenshots
  • Attendance corrections and shift settings
  • No action edits or deletes a timesheet entry.
  • Team leave and team attendance appear only for people whose AMS role already includes them.
  • Project hours are logged through Trackline’s action, not through AMS.

Questions about ai assistant (mcp) in AMS

Can an AI assistant clock me in or out?

No. AMS has no assistant action for clocking in, clocking out, breaks or the attendance timer. An assistant can read your attendance for today and your timesheet, but starting and stopping the clock is something you do yourself.

Can I log project hours through Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes, through Trackline rather than AMS. Trackline has an action that logs time against a project and milestone, so you can dictate the hours. AMS attendance itself is not something an assistant can write to.

Can a manager approve leave from an assistant?

Yes, if their role lets them approve leave in AMS and they ticked changes for AMS when connecting. The assistant can list the team’s leave requests and approve or reject one, and the decision is recorded as the manager’s.

Can an assistant see AMS screenshots?

No. Screenshots have no assistant action, so a connected assistant cannot list, open or delete them, for the member or for a team.
