Cadence · AI assistant (MCP)

A project management MCP server: issues and sprints from Claude, ChatGPT or your terminal

The work of keeping a tracker honest is mostly typing: writing up the bug you just found, turning a meeting into tickets, moving cards after a release. Cadence exposes more actions to an AI assistant than any other Orbiz tool, because that typing is exactly what an assistant is good at. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Claude Code and it creates, updates, moves and closes issues and runs sprints, as you, in the projects you can already open. It cannot delete anything, and it cannot reconfigure a board.

Included in every plan. No per-seat charge, no per-tool upsell.

Issues: create, update, move, close, comment

The read actions list projects, sprints and issues, open a single project or issue, and search issues by text. The write actions do what a person does on the board all day:

  • Create an issue, or report a bug with its steps.
  • Create several issues at once, from meeting notes or a checklist.
  • Update an issue’s details.
  • Move an issue to another column.
  • Close an issue, and add a comment.

Because an assistant is good at structure, the bug report is the action that pays back first. Describe what happened in a sentence or two and it files the issue with the steps, the environment and the expected result laid out.

Sprints without the ceremony

Three actions cover the sprint itself: create one, start it and complete it. Together with listing issues, that is enough for “what is still open in this sprint, and who has it?” before a stand-up and “complete the sprint and tell me what was left” at the end.

Planning still happens between people. What the assistant removes is the clerical half: creating the sprint with its dates, moving the agreed issues in, and closing it out.

From Claude Code, next to the code

Claude Code is one of the assistants named in the product, and it suits Cadence well. A developer who hits a failing export while working in the repository can report the bug without leaving the terminal, with the error and the steps already in the conversation. Closing the issue with a comment when the fix ships takes one sentence.

Because Claude Code runs on your own machine, the Orbiz consent page shows an extra warning for a local app: only approve if you started it. It is a small thing, and it is there so an approval request you did not expect gets cancelled rather than waved through.

Start with reading, then add changes

An assistant is fast and occasionally wrong, and nothing here deletes. A dozen issues created from a misread note have to be tidied by hand in Cadence. So approve reading first, see how it answers questions about your projects, and reconnect with changes once you trust the phrasing your team uses.

Reading and changing are separate ticks on the consent page, and the assistant only reaches projects your role can open. Each action it takes is listed in an activity log, with its outcome, in Settings → Connected AI apps; an admin sees the organisation’s log and can disconnect any assistant.

Connecting an assistant to Cadence

Inside Orbiz, Settings → Connected AI apps shows your organisation’s address with a copy button, and a ready-made setup line for Claude Code. Use the address as a custom connector in Claude or ChatGPT, or run the setup line in your terminal, then approve Cadence on the Orbiz page that opens. Neither is printed here: the address is only shown inside the product. More on how connecting works is on the Orbiz MCP page.

Before you decide

What it does not do

The limits, stated plainly, so nobody finds them after the contract is signed.

  • Deleting issues, sprints or projects
  • Board, workflow and custom-field configuration
  • An assistant reaches only the projects your role can open in Cadence.
  • Issues or sprints created by mistake are cleaned up in Cadence itself, because no action deletes.

Questions about ai assistant (mcp) in Cadence

Can Claude Code create Cadence issues from my terminal?

Yes. Claude Code is one of the assistants Orbiz MCP supports. Once connected and approved for Cadence, it can report a bug, create and update issues, comment and close them, as you, without leaving the terminal.

Can an assistant delete issues or sprints in Cadence?

No. There is no delete action for issues, sprints or projects. An assistant can create, update, move and close issues and create, start and complete sprints; removing something is done in Cadence by a person.

Can ChatGPT turn meeting notes into Cadence issues?

Yes. Cadence has an action that creates several issues in one go, so you can paste notes or a checklist, name the project and ask for an issue per item. Approve reading first if you want to see how it interprets your notes before it creates anything.

Will an assistant see every project in the organisation?

No. It acts as the member who connected it, so it lists and opens the projects that member can open in Cadence and no others.
